How Blackout Shades Work
Blackout shades are made from densely woven or coated fabrics with very low light transmission. When lowered, the fabric itself blocks the vast majority of sunlight passing through the window, making the room noticeably darker and more private.
It's important to understand that the shade fabric blocks light through the glass — but some light may still enter around the edges of the shade depending on how the shade is mounted, the window frame configuration, and the gap between the shade and the wall. For maximum light reduction, we recommend discussing mounting options with us when you request your quote.
A note on room darkness
No roller shade can guarantee a completely dark room in all conditions. The fabric significantly reduces light, but the final result depends on installation factors such as mounting depth, side gaps, and window configuration.
